MISSISSIPPI HISTORY

Mississippi History will cover the History of MS from its indigenous tribes up to current politics in MS. We will discuss MS's time as a French, Spanish, and English colony, MS's time as a territory, its statehood, secession from the US, and its role in the Civil War. We will also discuss Reconstruction, the Civil Rights era, its political history, and its current political makeup. 

Please note that this course is not only a 0.5 high school Social Studies credit, but is also REQUIRED for graduation. Please do your best every day. Parents, please make sure to update your phone number with the school if it has changed as I will be using School Status to update you on tests, quizzes, assignments, and other announcements. School Status provides me only the phone numbers used when you registered for school, if those are out of date, I can not update you on the goings on in class.

Bio

Hello all! I was born and raised in Meridian, MS but had the pleasure of moving quite a bit in my youth. I have spent time in Mississippi, Georgia, Texas, Arkansas, Illinois, and Louisiana! I currently live in Olive Branch and this will be my sixth year at Southaven Middle School.

Education

I graduated from Mississippi State University with a degree in elementary education in 2000. I also earned my Master's degree in Educational Leadership from Mississippi State in 2007

Experience

I have been teaching for 20 years. I spent my first year teaching 1st grade in Houston, TX. I have spent the last 19 years teaching in Mississippi. In that time I have taught 6th grade Math, Science and Social Studies, as well as 8th Grade MS History and World Geography. This will be my sixth year at Southaven Middle School.
