Subjects Taught
8th Grade Language Arts

After graduating from Central High School in Memphis, TN, I attended The University of Memphis where I earned a Bachelor of Arts in English followed by a Master of Arts in Teaching with a major in Instruction, Curriculum, and Leadership for Secondary Education.

Future plans include obtaining an Educational Doctorate in Adolescent Psychology or Administration and Leadership.

One day, I hope to work in district as a literacy coach. After I retire in 21 years, I plan to work for a consulting firm for school improvement companies such as High Schools That Work, SREB, or maybe Kagan.

From 2009-2014, I taught senior and then junior English at Wooddale High School for Memphis/Shelby County Schools. As a new teacher, I was immersed in both the Common Core State Standards and the PARCC testing platform. However, we are operating now under the MS College and Career Readiness Standards and testing under the MAP testing platform, which do correlate and carry over in ELA. Additionally, I spent 3 years working with High Schools That Work, a school improvement organization, and the Literacy Design Collaborative framework, designed to help teachers and schools create in-depth, student-centered environments where student learning and performance is maximized. I presented at the 2013 HSTW Conference in New Orleans on the use of LDC in the classrooms, where reading, note-taking, and journaling lead to extended writing pieces (AKA essays!).

The 2016-2017 school year is my third year at Southaven Middle School and an 8th grade ELA teacher; this marks my 8th year as an educator overall.

A native of Memphis, Tn, I currently live in Dosoto County and LOVE being a part of this amazing community! I am very excited to be an English Language Arts teacher at SMS for eighth grade and I look forward to a very successful year for us all!

This is my fourth year at Southaven and I am thankful to have the opportunity to teach such a fabulous group of students, to work with outstanding parents, and to have an amazing faculty.

Outside of school, I enjoy spending time with my family and friends. I like to go camping, swimming, riding my horses, exercising, and riding my motorcycle. Truly, I love anything outdoors :)
